did you watch Seaquest DSV back in the mid-90s? It was set in the mid 21st century when people were exploring the oceans like it was space. It was pretty silly, but back then I really enjoyed watching it. Big surprise.
Anyway, one of the things they did in the future was ban raising cattle because the methane that cattle give off through flatulence and from their decomposing dung was a large cause of global warming.
Something similar was also on NPR this morning
